“Stanford Training in Aging Research” led by Dr. Thomas Rando (NIA) is another new training program (in its 3rd year) supports graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in aging research. Given the strong age-dependent risk of diabetes, there is a clear alignment of interest between the SDRC and this program. An innovative aspect of the Program includes an exposure to clinical geriatrics. Presently, three SDRC-affiliated faculty members participate in this training grant and one trainee. This program provides a high-level monthly seminar series that enhance SDRC’s training environment, e.g. “Mitochondria and aging” (Toren Finkel MD PhD) and “Mechanisms of nutrients-dependent effects on aging, stress resistance and regeneration (Valter Longo).
