Kiran Kocherlakota is the Program Manager of Diabetes Research Center at Stanford University (SDRC). She obtained a Masters in Biomedical Sciences from Delhi University and a PhD from Pennsylvania State University in the field of Cell and Developmental Biology. Since then, she has worked in various laboratories across Stanford University, Howard Hughes Medical Institute and Chan Zuckerberg Biohub. Her research experience is spread across multiple disciplines and various model organisms. Alongside her benchwork, she grew into increasingly managerial roles over time. In particular, she gained experience in setting up new research centers by helping set up a collaborative culture at Children’s Research Institute (CRI) with appropriate policy decisions. At CRI, she was trained in developing effective strategies and tactics to build an excellent scientific research center.
After almost 20 years at the bench, she has decided to ‘hang up her pipette’ and dive full time into an administrative role. In the role of Program Manager at SDRC, she will continue to leverage her broad technical and administrative experience to foster a collaborative atmosphere conducive for research & development at SDRC.
