“Training Grant in Academic Gastroenterology” led by SDRC affiliated member Dr. Anson Lowe (NIDDK) includes 4 SDRC-affiliated investigators that have trained 7 researches over the past 10 years. This program contributes to the SDRC through its focus on (1) inflammatory diseases including types 1 ,2 and 3c diabetes and basic developmental biology of the pancreas and enteric neuroendocrine system. Additionally, clinician scientists are trained in the areas of health services and clinical outcomes research (including a Master’s degree in public health) and bioengineering and medical device development. Nine-four percent of supported trainees have published their work and, over the past 10 years, 87% of trainees remain active in academic careers.
