John Yoon, MD PhD, Associate Professor, Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism, Internal Medicine, University of California, Davis

Research Description: Dr. Yoon’s research focus is how adipose tissue controls systemic energy metabolism through modulation of glucose and lipid homeostasis, thermogenesis, and adipokine secretion. A sustained positive energy balance results in obesity, an important risk factor for type 2 diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease. Certain human conditions such as cancer cachexia or cystic fibrosis are characterized by a negative energy balance from inadequate nutrition and/or excessive energy expenditure. Restoring abnormally regulated energy metabolism is a significant goal in these conditions.
