Preksha Bhagchandani

MD and PhD Student, Department of Medicine, Stanford University

Preksha Bhagchandani started in the Stanford MD-PhD Program in 2018, and joined the labs of Drs. Seung Kim and Everett Meyer as part of the Immunology PhD program. She completed a bachelor’s degree in biological engineering at MIT. There, Preksha trained under the supervision of Dr. Hidde Ploegh, working on inflammatory disease and the impact of the microbiome on regulatory T cell populations in the gut. Her current research interests include cell therapies for type 1 diabetes and immunological tolerance for transplantation and autoimmunity.

She is now in her final year of her graduate studies, with current thesis work focused on low-toxicity hematopoietic stem cell transplantation to promote allogeneic islet tolerance and correction of autoimmunity in type 1 diabetes mouse models. She hopes to pursue a physician-scientist career working with type 1 diabetes patients and continue research on novel cellular therapeutics in the future,
