David Maahs, MD, PhD — ISPAD 2026 Prize for Achievement

We're proud to celebrate SDRC Associate Director Dr. David Maahs, who has been named the 2026 recipient of the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD) Prize for Achievement, the society's highest honor.

Dr. Maahs is the Lucile Salter Packard Professor of Pediatrics at Stanford and Division Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology, whose two decades of research, including the landmark 4T Study, have transformed how diabetes technology is integrated into routine care for people with type 1 diabetes. A former ISPAD President, he has also mentored countless physician-scientists and helped build the training infrastructure that sustains the next generation of diabetes researchers at Stanford and beyond.

Dr. Maahs will be formally honored at ISPAD's Networking & Recognition Evening during the 52nd Annual ISPAD Conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, November 4–7, where he will also deliver the Prize for Achievement's opening lecture.

Congratulations, Dr. Maahs, on this incredible and well-deserved recognition!
